ACTIVITIES

For the more active person there are many both outdoor and indoor activities to keep one occupied. Close to Springfield house we have some of the following:

Golf: Within a radius of about 10 miles there are 5 golf courses. Dunmore, Liselan, Bandon, Skibbereen and Kinsale are all set in tranquil scenic areas that will test any golfing enthusiast.

There is also a Pitch & Putt course and a Driving Range in Rosscarbery.

Horse Riding: Enjoy horse riding in the beautiful treks through Castlefreke wood or on the sandy beaches. There are two main ones close to Springfield House - Lisavard Pony Trecking and Rosscarbery Horse Riding Center. Both these offer beginner, intermediated and advanced paths.

Surfing: West Cork is a great region for surfing. Springfield House overlooks The Red Strand and the Long Strand is only about half a mile away. Inchydoney and Ownachincha are also just around the corner.

Swimming: There are quite a number of beaches in the west Cork region. Three within walking distance are the Red Strand, the Long Strand and Owhenchia. You also have the choice of indoor swimming pools at the Celtic Ross Hotel where you can enter for a minimum fee for the day or just for a couple of hours.

Angling: For the fisherman in the tranquil settings of West Cork there are some excellent fishing and angling areas. Most notably Bandon where it is recognised internationally as one of Ireland's finest salmon rivers. Brown and sea trout can also be fished.

Sailing, canoeing and diving: There is an excellent center in the nearby village of Leap. One can hire out a boat and sail into the Atlantic ocean or go diving off the amazing coast line.

Tennis: There are some great tennis facilities nearby. In our neighbouring parish of Ardfield, is located our local tennis club. For just a minimum fee you can book a time and server up some great tennis. Also there are tennis courts in all the nearby towns and villages with some exciting summer competitions.

Playground: For the younger children there are playgrounds in Rosscarbery, Leap and the newly opened one in Clonakilty. They have great facilties with restaurants and shops close by.

Camping: For the very adventurous tourist you can also camp out in the local forest. The local club hire out all the necessary equipment - again for a minimum fee - and after a night outdoors there is nothing better than relaxing in the comforts of Springfield House.
